FAQ for YSoccer League

Q: Can I still register my kid for soccer?
A:
Official registration closed on August 18th 2017. Beyond this date, an active wait list will be monitored. Players need to register to be placed on the wait list. Once a spot is found, then payment will be requested. We do our best not to turn away any kid that wants to play. It may take several days to be placed on a team after registration has closed.

Q: How do you determine a player’s age group for soccer?
A:
As a US Youth Soccer Association affiliated club our guidelines is set by the national standards of USYSA. There are recent two changes regarding age.

· As of the fall 2016 season, age cut-offs moved to a calendar year not a school year. This also changes how divisions are listed, for example, Under 8 now becomes 8 & Under or because children may have already had a birthday in the first part of the year. It also may be listed simply as 2010’s.

· It is now required that players of all levels (rec, academy, select) have a Proof of Birth document on file at the State Soccer Assoc. We are requesting PoB’s this year.

· Players may play up an age with permission from the Director and not to the detriment of the child’s experience. Players are NOT allowed to play down an age division.

Q: What day and time are practices?
A:
Practice runs Monday through Friday. Practice times and days are set by the volunteer coaches based on their work schedules and available field space. First practices of the fall season start the week of September 4th, after Labor Day.

Q: What time are the games?
A:
Games are on Saturdays and will begin at 9:00am and run through noon or early afternoon. Game times for teams may vary each week within that window. If a coach has multiple teams to coach, consideration will be given for back-to-back games for such a commitment. This season’s game schedule will likely be posted the week of the Opening Day Festival on September 16th.

Q: Where are games and practice?
A: Practices may be held on the field behind the CCE Y Branch or at the CDM Pre-School Campus fields. All games are intended to run at CDM fields on Saturday’s.

The Tiny-Tot Program will run at CCE YMCA fields at the scheduled session times.

CCE YMCA, 5000 Claire-Chapin Epps Blvd, Myrtle Beach SC 29577

Child Development Ministry Pre-School, 904 65th Ave. N. Myrtle Beach SC 29572

Q: How do I find out information like my coach, practices or game schedules?
A:
We use a program called PlayerSpace to communicate with such a large league. Playerspace is a sports communication and league management portal that we use to enhance and improve the overall communication and scheduling for our soccer league. All teams, players, coaches and volunteers will be active users in Playerspace in conjunction with their YMCA registration. Once registered, all users will have access to all league schedules and information. This information is being entered, organized and distributed after registration closes as quickly as possible.

The YMCA will determine if fields are unplayable or conditions are unsafe which will automatically cancel all practices. Otherwise fields will be open for teams to practice, however, on an individual team basis a Coach may cancel or reschedule a practice based on team dynamics even if fields are open. Field closures will be communicated via Playerspace by a posting on the website, email to subscribers and/or text message if you opted to receive them.

Q: I am having troubles with how to use Playerspace.
A:
Playerspace is the system we use to communicate with the 500+ players & families in our program. It will always have the most up to date information. This includes your child’s team, coach, practice times and game times. Please visit the following site for help in learning how to use the system. http://help.playerspace.com/

Q: I have not heard from anyone, including my coach. When will this happen?
A:
The key is to subscribe to PlayerSpace and you will have access to all the information on the league. There will also be game & practice reminders issued automatically via PlayerSpace which is very helpful. If you have not heard anything from PlayerSpace or your Coach, then feel free to reach out as there may be an error in the contact information for some unknown reason. Once you are logged into PlayerSpace you have the option to email your coach or the Director.

Q: When do I get my child's Jersey?
A:
Will be issued by the coach at a practice, the week prior to the first game, September 11th through 15th.

Q: What is included in my registration?
A:
7 games plus a play-off game (if applicable) for fall & spring seasons, full uniform, appropriate sized ball, secondary insurance coverage with South Carolina Youth Soccer Assoc., a player participation award for each season and lots of fun. This does not pay for the right to complain about every referee decision during a game

Q: Does my child need shinguards and cleats?
A:
Shinguards are required for all players as part of a risk management requirement for all Youth Soccer players. Soccer cleats are preferred, but not mandatory. However, some morning dew on the grass will provide enough reason.

Soccer cleats are made for the twisting and turning a player makes during a game, lighter than other athletic cleats and shaped to help pass or shoot the ball correctly. We have a local specialist store in town called Soccer Locker. Ansel, the owner, started the store as his boys were playing soccer and he wanted to provide access to well-priced, quality soccer equipment without over-spending and some good advice.

Project Golden Goal is a local non-profit that will accept donations of used soccer equipment and send them to impoverished children in third world countries around the world. The Y is a drop off location.

Q: What are the basic rules in each age group? (Including what size ball for your child.)
A: See Rules link on YSoccer PlayerSpace Homepage

Q: Can I play my child up or down in a division?
A:
Players may play up an age with permission from the Director and not to the detriment of the child’s experience. We are moving towards single year age groups where possible, but please understand that playing up may result in a 3 year age gap between some players on the field due to two year age groups for the team divisions. Players are NOT allowed to play down an age division.

Q: What is your refund policy?
A:
A full refund can be issued prior to a player receiving their uniform & ball. After that, there will be a $30 fee to cover the cost of replacing the uniform & ball for a new registrant filling the spot on the roster in the fall or spring. All refunds must be requested prior to September 30th, 2017 for the Fall League.
