Dear Soccer Parents:

Welcome to the YSoccer program for 2017-18 and see you as a member of a greater community with a commonality of a love of “the beautiful game” as it is affectionately known across the world.

Here’s some helpful background information about the YSoccer program:

  • You are part of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) as a member of the YSoccer program and affiliated under the South Carolina Youth Soccer Assoc. (SCYSA)
  • USSF is sanctioned under FIFA, the world governing body of soccer (they are cleaning things up over there, so I heard)
  • This means the Y is invested in a building a quality soccer program that holds to the benchmarks and “best practices” in kind with the US Men’s & Women’s National Teams, MLS and National Women’s Soccer League.
  • Side Note: High School (NFHS) and College (NSCAA) are separate and unique associations to the world game and only exist in the US, but are certainly credible and provide vital function to soccer in the US.

As a matter of “best practice”, the YMCA did at one time, request proof of birth for participating youth athletes. This process appears to have been overlooked in recent years. However, as of the 2017/18 season, it is now mandatory for all players of all levels under USSF affiliated play to provide proof of birth to their respective State Assoc. for initial registration, one time only.

Therefore, we are required to request that all players submit a copy of proof of birth.

Coaches are required to submit a copy of their driver’s license.

Registrations will be verified by SCYSA for full documentation and therefore without this document, a player can be regarded ineligible.

While the PoB documentation is often requested, we are taking every precaution to handle this information in a safe manner. Here’s how we can receive the PoB document:

  • Present in person at the CCE YMCA to an Welcome Center Staff Member who will secure the document in a locked file.
  • Call the Y, notify and fax to 843-449-0970 and then the document will be secured in a locked file.
  • Scan and email to confidential@coastalcarolinaymca.org only accessible by two key YMCA staff members.

We thank you for your time and consideration in this request and wish all players, coaches, parents and families a safe and enjoyable soccer season.
