To All Players, Coaches and Soccer Families -
After some careful deliberation, thought and advisement the
Y will be postponing the Opening Day Soccer Weekend and keeping all soccer
fields closed and secure moving forward until we are clear of the storm. I am
sorry that I must deliver such news, but with all considered we must lean on
the side of caution based on our abilities, resources and above all else,
everyone’s safety.
With the best information presently at hand, a potential
landfall of Monday/Tuesday, a hurricane the size of South Carolina and it’s
well publicized strength, it presents a reasonable risk to move focus enough to
allow people to take care of their families and households. A soccer program of
our size has some considerable infrastructure (communication & hardware)
that needs to be handled in such an event and requires time. Nobody can be
certain right now, but we must allow time for preparedness to take place.
Being that we have a season and not a single weekend event,
there is an ability to recover any missed game time and Opening Day Festivities
into the calendar. However to open up the fields at this time, for a brief
moment, is difficult to say the least and has caused more delay in rolling out
team onto the Y fields. No teams have started practice as yet and Y fields
remain closed further notice. I will continue to work on the adjusted plans of
the program and distribute information to our volunteers and participants.
As we all know, conditions can change quickly and
drastically in storms of this magnitude. Please take every precaution and be
safe and we will see everyone back on the fields as soon as it is physically
possible.
Warmest Regards,
Neal
